Some diners mention busy lunchtime crowds, which can lead to a slight wait for food during peak times. While the service is generally fast, a few guests have noted that during the rush, the staff may not have the same level of attention, though they remain friendly. Occasionally, the outdoor seating can get windy, which might detract from the enjoyment of a meal by the sea. A handful of visitors have also wished for a more diverse vegetarian menu, though there are options available.
After a windswept walk down Southend Pier, the four of us, two couples out for the day, touched down at The Waterfront Fish & Chip Restaurant, for a late lunch, and it was smooth sailing from start to finish. As an ex–British Airways cabin crew member, I’ve seen (and served) my fair share of meals, but this was a real ‘high-flyer’.Between us, we ordered cod & chips, haddock & chips, and two scampi & chips all perfectly cooked, crisp, and piping hot. I couldn’t resist two milkshakes, chocolate and chocolate chip, both so good they deserve their own loyalty card. The service was impeccable: warm, efficient, and genuinely welcoming, the kind of care you rarely find outside First Class. Prices were reasonable, portions generous, and our French friends even declared it ‘the best fish and chips they’d ever had’ The owner, proudly at the helm for 16 years, clearly runs a tight ship. Highly recommended, a real lightwave in Southend’s sea of fish and chips.
Absolutely wonderful business!!! I cannot praise this restaurant enough :-) and the same goes for my two daughters & nan (we all agreed) that this is one of the best tasting fish & chips along the esplanade. We go Southend every year and have tried so many (being so spoiled for choice) it’s been hard to review. But I must say this restaurant deserves it. The staff, especially a lovely lady who served us are all so welcoming and friendly, with a serene atmosphere just made the whole dining experience even more memorable and throughly enjoyed it. The fresh fish & chips with salad is out of this world and the quarter pounder burgers (which my daughters ordered) said they were the best they’ve tried. Including the gorgeous luxury milkshake, which my youngest said was beyond the tastiest :-) Thank you to all staff for such a lovely meal and service with a smile. It made our day extra special. Xxx
The Waterfront Chippy is hands-down one of the best fish and chip shops I’ve visited in a long time. Located right by the sea the views alone make it worth the trip – but the food? Even better. I went with the classic cod and chips, and it was everything you’d hope for: the batter was perfectly crisp without being greasy, and the fish inside was flaky and fresh. The chips were thick-cut, golden, and fluffy on the inside – exactly how proper chips should be. The staff were friendly and fast, even during the busy lunchtime rush. Everything was freshly cooked to order, and served piping hot. They even offered vinegar and sauces on the side so you could season to taste. Bonus points for the generous portions and clean seating area outside where you can enjoy your meal with a sea breeze. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, The Waterfront Chippy is well worth a visit. Proper British comfort food done right.thank you again to the staff..
Very good service, it's halal and food was great.. great people working there.
Nica place and the staff was so friendly. The food come quick and was fresh.
Great food, lovely friendly staff, and good value for money. The Musy peas are maybe the best I have ever had. Highly recommended.
Seems to be the only place in that vicinity that serves proper fresh chips (as opposed to greasy frozen fare). Cod was tasty too. Recommend!
